 Hi Lefteris,
Thank you for the update, I can confirm that the OG info now works as it should :)

I have 2 other requests for the next update.

1. Would it be possible to add another choice to the drop down list for OG Type? Currently there is only article and product. It would be great if you also included the 'review' option as well :)

2. Another great option would be to have a character counter on the meta description field, with the current recommended length shown. As you know, k2 implements this handy feature, yet J Content does not. I think it's a missed opportunity for a great piece of software.

All the best.

Brendan

Hi,

I am glad that the OG works fine now. Regarding your requests:

1. Are you sure that "review" is a valid OG type value? I didn't find any resources for that.
2. That's something we need to add indeed.

Hi Lefteris,
Regarding item 1.

There is a plethora of old, out of date info on the net regarding this topic, as you would expect.
However, I would say you are correct, I cannot find reference to an OG type for 'review' specifically, which seems a little short sighted to me. Although you can setup an app in fb to deal with that shortcoming. Which seems like a lot of arsing about to me. So, I think for the scope and remit of Route 66 it is not possible. I did find, however, a couple lists of OG types that could be added as options, if you felt it necessary.

A list on stackoverflow
The Open Graph website

It could be possible to use this 'value' of the og type 'article' as a work around:
'article:tag - string array - (Tag words associated with this article). Where the 'string array' could be replaced with any topic, Review, for example.
I think this could be the answer, but maybe a 'do at your own risk, only if you know what you are doing' label by the input field. Although I don't think it would break your site if you entered something incorrect in the input box. It would need a bit of research as to how FB handles the info you give it.

What do you think?

Regards, Brendan

I don't think that there is any need to support OG types other than Article and Product. OG metadata is only used by social networks like Facebook and Twitter when you share a URL. They have no impact on SEO as far as I know.
The same goes for article:tags but this is something we can populate automatically using the article (or K2 item) tags.
Please let me know about your thoughts on this.

Good Evening Lefteris,

I think if you can use the article tags as an auto addon to the og type article:tag then go for it.

Whilst I get it that Route 66 is primarily a SEO product, it is these little tweaks that set it above its competitors, I assume that is why you included the auto facebook articles function.

So much is done on social media these days and there is so much integration that, to me, it makes sense to make your product as complete as possible.
Looking at the info in the links I sent previously, there are many documented versions of the different article and product og tags.

Using the 'review' as an example. If I had a review on my site for something I did well, why wouldn't I want to post it to FB either by the instant article function, or by having FB see it as a review if it was posted or shared on FB. This info is taken by FB from the OG meta of a page, as you already know.

All the best
Brendan
