In the Route 66 reviews users are saying that this software crashes their Joomla websites because of incompatibility with LESS files. Can you confirm?

Hi John,
Route 66 has a CSS optimization feature which combines all CSS files and embeds the output in the page. This feature is not working with LESS files.
It will not crash your site. And in any case this feature can be disabled in the component options.
