Hi Lefteris,

I wanted to add a description to an image but I am not able to click into the editor field. I can switch to the code modus but if I write something there and switch back to the editor mode than I don't see anything.

I am using Joomla 4.3.0 with Showtime 1.5.8 and JCE 2.9.36.

Can you help me with this?

Kind regards
Tanja Vogt

Hi Tanja,

Just tested with JCE Core 2.9.36 and JCE Pro 2.9.33 and everything works fine for me. I am using Showtime Image Gallery 1.5.8 under Joomla 4.3.1.
Can you please provide some more information? Does the issue occur inside the editor modal or in the component backend?
Which browser are you using? Do you get any errors logged in the browser console?

Regards

Hi Lefteris,

The error occurs in the backend and there in the component and also in the custom modules. And it is within the editor modal.
I tried both Firefox and Chrome, the error is the same.

In Chrome there is an error in the console:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'addEventListener')
at index.php?option=com_showtime&view=gallery&layout=edit&id=61:93:24
(anonymous) @ index.php?option=com_showtime&view=gallery&layout=edit&id=61:93

In Firefox the error is:

Uncaught TypeError: modeSwitcherButton is null
<anonymous> https://XXX.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_showtime&view=gallery&layout=edit&id=61:93
index.php:93:5
<anonym> https://XXX.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_showtime&view=gallery&layout=edit&id=61:93

Can I help with further information?

Kind regards
Tanja

Hi Tanja,

It seems that a third party extension throws an error and that makes the editor unusable.
The "modeSwitcherButton" which is causing the error is not coming from Showtime Image Gallery for sure.
You can try to disable some third party extensions and see what's causing this. I guess it's an editor button causing this.
Alternatively, just create a new private ticket and provide administrator access so I can have a look.

Hi Tanja,

After several tries, I found out that the issue occurs when JCE option "Compress Javascript" is set to "Yes".
Setting this to "No" seems to fix the issue. However, using JCE Pro version 2.9.33 everything works fine even when "Compress Javascript" is set to "Yes".

Hi Lefteris,

thank you very much for your quick help. I created a ticket at JCE and asked them if they can have a look or provide you the current Pro version.
But maybe the development version is also helpful. I found this link: https://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/downloads/editor/pro/development

I will get back to you if I hear from them.

Kind regards,
Tanja

Hi Tanja,

Thank you for letting the guys at JCE know about this. The development version also requires a subscription.
In any case, we will fix this issue for sure.

Hi Lefteris,

Ryan from JCE had a look at the backend and he couldn't find something. Here is his answer:

"This works OK for me in Firefox but not in Chrome. I suspect it has something to do with the initialization of the editor in the popup window by ShowTime, but there is no specific javascript error so it is difficult to troubleshoot.

The simplest fix here is just to leave Compress Javascript off. There is not really much of a performance increase with this on, as modern browsers can sometimes load multiple files (JCE scripts and plugin files) faster than loading one big file (the compressed file data)."

For me it didn't work in Firefox, but I'm fine with letting the compression off.

Kind regards,
Tanja

Hi Tanja,

Thank you for sharing the response.
It seems that this is a really tricky issue but I will give it a try for sure.
Until then you can keep the option"Compress Javascript" is set to "No".
Just let me know if you face any issues.

Regards
