Hi Lefteris,

I am getting back to two old tickets. The first one is #1169.

You helped my where to override the component's file in order to display the source image in the pop-up in the backend but told me that you would integrate this in the main settings of the new Joomla 5 version.

But unfortunately I couldn't find this setting in version 1.8.1.

Is there a way to integrate it?

And also I am getting back to the ticket #1032. There you told me that you would like to integrate an order feature into the component's backend view so that you could choose the gallery order in the module. Again I have a client where I want to create a module which displays all galleries of one category in a special layout.

The client will have access to the backend but she will have no access to modules so the module has to display a newly created gallery on its own. For that feature I need the ordering feature for the module. Is this still planned and if yes, do you have a time shedule for me?

Kind regards,

Tanja

Hi Tanja,

Thank you for reaching out.

I’m happy to inform you that the custom ordering feature has been implemented and will be included in the next update, which is scheduled for release in a few days.

Regarding the use of the source image in the backend editing process, we haven’t taken action on this yet. We’re carefully considering a solution that balances functionality with efficient disk space usage.

To help optimize storage, we are considering adding a button that would allow users to manually delete original images. However, using this option would impact the following functionality:

  1. Using the “Generate Images” button based on custom options.
  2. Upscaling images.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Would having a manual delete option for original images be useful for your use case, even with these limitations?

Let me know what you think!

Best regards,

Hi Lefteris,

happy to hear about the ordering option!

The image in the editing option pop-up doesn't have to be the source image. It could also be the thumbnail or the preview image.

We just don't use the main image in our layout overrides so we set it to 10x10px. Maybe it would be nice to have a radio switch in the config to choose which image sizes should be generated so we could just say that the main image does not have to be generated. But then we would also need a dropdown to choose which image should be shown in the editing pop-up.

What do you mean with original image? For me, this is the source image, right? We could never delete the source image as we use it to display in the frontend fancybox. So for us this is no option.

Maybe for other users who do not use the source image in the frontend the button for the deletion could be an interesting option to save disc space. But I understand the problem with the regenerating of thumbs. Maybe this would create more problems than help. At least I would integrate a pop-up alert which displays when you click the button so that the source images cannot be deleted accidentally.

kind regards,

Tanja

Hi Tanja,

Thank you for your feedback!

We’ve had a slight delay with the update, but it’s still on the way and should be released soon.

Regarding the “delete original images” button, we haven’t made a final decision yet. As you pointed out, it could be useful for users who don’t need the source image in the frontend, but it also comes with potential risks, such as issues with regenerating thumbnails. If we proceed with this, we’ll definitely include a confirmation pop-up to prevent accidental deletions.

Your suggestion about allowing users to choose which image sizes should be generated is very interesting. We’ll take it into consideration as we continue improving the extension.

Thanks again for your input! Let me know if you have any other thoughts.

Best regards

Lefteris
